2005 Conferences

Bishops Speak to the Renewal (Brooklyn Park, MN)

I don't know of any other conference in the history of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal like this one. A number of bishops gathered to publicly address the strengths and weaknesses, the accomplishments and future obstacles of the Renewal. Sessions for laity, priests, deacons and sisters were included.  Many provocative talks.  As part of the conference, a booklet of written responses from over 70 bishops was assembled with additional insights about the Renewal.  These talks and the booklet have provided and continue to provide the basis for serious thinking on the part of leadership groups in the Renewal.

Voice of the Faithful National Conference (Indianapolis, IN)
This gathering of Catholics, initially motivated by concern for victims of sexual abuse by clergy, met to explore methods for bringing positive change to the Catholic Church.  Examining church history, legislative approaches, parish accountability structures, meeting dynamics, and maintaining unity were only some of the many topics covered at this strategic planning event.

Lutheran Renewal's Holy Spirit Conference (Arden Hills, MN)

Bob Sorge's painfully honest sharing of his struggles and Bill Johnson's dynamic account of the miraculous and Wesley Campbell's unique blend of social justice with end times theology were only a few of the highlights of this powerful teaching conference.    There were a number of good workshops, as well.

Catholic Charismatic Teaching Conference (Minnetonka, MN)

This annual gathering featured Jim Murphy covering topics as diverse as leading prayer meetings to dealing with the unchurched in our families.  A dozen other speakers also spoke of growing in holiness, using charisms, and going deeper in prayer.  One of the bestselling talks was by Fr. Jim Livingston on "How To Recognize Your Gifts."

Lutheran Renewal's EQUIPPING Conference (Arden Hills, MN)
Jack Deere and Graham Cooke were the two powerful speakers at this conference. Jack's talk on Freedom From Judging Others was the best talk I've heard on this topic and formed the basis for my own talk (see Colin's talks),  His talk on Freedom From Anger was also good.  Graham spoke on challenging issues of church growth.

Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators (Rochester, MN)

The M.A.C.H.E. conference is one of the largest in the country for home schoolers with over 5,000 attendees. If you are homeschooling or thinking about it, there is a lot of helpful wisdom here in the 80+ talks.  Dr. Davis's talks and those by Todd Wilson were the best sellers, but with almost 70 talks to choose from, there is something for every home-schooling parent..

Fr. Bill Halbing was the most popular speaker at this uplifting annual event, but Sr. Emmanuel, Artie Boyle, and Fr. Noonan's talks were also very well received.

The Shaping of Things To Come  (Arden Hills,MN)

This seminar by Rev. Michael Frost, from Australia, blew me away!  I've heard a lot of church growth type talks over the years, but Michael's approach was so fresh and mind-expanding that I spent a lot of the time trying to figure out how one could apply his principles to a mainline Catholic or Protestant church.  Very thought provoking.

This seminar was entitled "Houses that Change the World: The Return of the House Church."
